… Appreciate Gov. Umo Eno for prioritising Health, Education Sector
In a significant move to completement the Arise Agenda of His Excellency Governor Umo Eno in the health and education sector, a Medical Practioner in the State, Dr Utomobong Udoh has established a distinction funds aimed at supporting and motivating the Medical Students who has distinguished themselves with the highest professional examination grade of a distinction in any of the University of their training.
Dr Utomobong Udoh made the declaration in the University of Calabar, Calabar over the weekend, when he was being hosted by the leadership of the National Association of Akwa Ibom Medical Students, University of Calabar Chapter as a guest to launch the first ever website of the Association by Sen. Daniel Akpan led administration since the inception of the association.
Dr. Udoh, himself a Former President of the Association at the Worldwide level said it was absolutely important to establish the distinction funds which according to him will inspire and foster the spirit of excellence and togetherness among the medical students body while propelling them for continuous academic excellent which will further boast the quality of trained medical doctors which the state will proud of in the nearest future.
Delivering his goodwill massage while lauching the Association’s first website in the history, Dr. Utomobong expresses satisfaction with the performance of the incumbent Chapter president Sen. Daniel Akpan since the assumption of office, adding that he has demonstrated excellent in leadership and urged him to sustain the tempo.
While congratulating the first set of the distinction funds beneficiaries, Dr Utomobong Udoh called on other members of the association to take their studies seriously and inculcate the habits of excellence in their respective classes.
He specifically charged the medical students not to look down on themselves no matter the circumstances but to be hopeful of the future, describing them as the future stakeholders in the Health Sector of Akwa Ibom State. He pointed out that the current leaders in the state were once medical students like them adding that His Excellency The Governor has transformed the health sector with lofty projects and programs through the ARISE agenda and prayed God to continue to give him the grace to do more for the people.
Dr. Udoh also used the opportunity to thank Dr. Glory Edet, the immediate past Commissioner for Agriculture and Dean Of Commissioners/Special advisers, Akwa Ibom State for single handedly adopting one of the medical students of the chapter, miss Emem Umoh to pay for her full training from year one to final including other expenses adding that he was excited to know that the student is still enjoying those financial support courtesy of her for over 4yrs now and still counting. He prayed God to bless her while calling on other well- meaning members of the public to emulate her.
Earlier in his welcome address, the president of the Association Sen Daniel Akpan, while thanking Dr Utomobong Udoh, whom he described as the pride of the association for honoring them to performed the launching of the first ever website for the association, highlighted the benefits of the website. He encouraged members to always log in at will to access information.
He specifically thank Dr Udoh for the establishment of the distinction funds adding that one of the awardee of the distinction funds Comr Deborah of the Clinical class 2 has so far bag a distinction in Human Anatomy, Medical biochemistry, Laboratory Medicine as well as Medical Pharmacology bringing the total number of the distinction so far gotten by this talented Akwa Ibom daughter to 4. He called on the state government to resume the payment of the medical study grant, which was initiated by Arc. Victor Attah, to support medical students pay their fees, that has recently skyrocketed.
High point of the event were presentation of certificates to three distinction students, and inducting them into NAAKIMS Hall of fame as well as official launching of the association’s website.
