ITU TRADERS ENDORSE UBONG NKUTT

In a rare show of support, traders  in Itu Local Government Area on Tuesday officially endorsed the frontrunner in the council chairmanship’s  race and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Itu; Mr. Ubong Wilson Nkutt, describing him as one who understands the needs of the people and is committed to advancing the welfare of the community.

Speaking on behalf of the Traders who gathered at the market office, Etaha Itam market; the President Itu Traders Welfare Association; Elder Godwin Ebong who said traders have long been key stakeholders in the local economy, praised Nkutt’s commitment to development and his personal connection to the local community. He thanked Governor Umo Eno, the PDP and critical stakeholders for giving youths the pedestal to serve and vie for leadership positions in the state.

Ebong declared the traders support for Nkutt’s aspiration and that of the councilorship candidates of the PDP, disclosing their plan to embark on a tour of markets in the local government to woo voters and also appealed to the PDP candidate to consider implementing reforms that will make the market a better place to do business and ultimately boost revenue for the local government; when he is elected.

Similarly, the President of Etaha Itam Market; Mr. Ubong Sunday Archibong said the traders in Itu Local Government have been supporting the PDP administrations and will do same for the party’s candidates in the October 5 council elections.

Mr. Ubong Nkutt, in his remarks, thanked the traders for their overwhelming support and pledged to prioritize policies that would boost small businesses, improve market infrastructure, and create an enabling environment for traders to thrive. “Your endorsement means the world to me, and I assure you that when elected, my administration will work to elevate the economic opportunities for all,” he stated.

Nkutt particularly appreciated the traders for taking proactive steps to support his campaign, rather than wait for him to come forward. He pledged to collaborate with traders, with a view to adding value so business would thrive, adding that much could be achieved with effective collaborations.

The highpoint of the event was the formal endorsement and donation of gifts including; a holy bible, branded caps and posters. Meanwhile, the endorsement by traders from markets in Itu Local Government is seen as a major boost to Nkutt’s campaign, indicating his grassroots support even as the elections draw closer.

Others who attended the event include; the PDP Vice Chaimanship candidate; Hon. Helen Nta, the Director General UbongAbasi Campaign Council; Elder Emmanuel Abel,  Mr. Patrick Ekim, Mr. moses Sambo, President T Junction Market, Representative from Obo Itam and Ikot Andem Itam markets, as well as the President Igbo Traders in Itu.

In another development, the PDP candidate in Itu Local Government Area and the immediate past Special Assistant to the Akwa Ibom State Governor on Youth Mobilisation; Mr. Ubong Wilson Nkutt led over 200 youths from the local government to Uyo Sports Stadium for the appreciation rally organized by Governor Umo Eno; in honour of Akwa Ibom youths.
