…says initiative is aimed at creating generational wealth

To enhance palm oil production in Ikono and by extention Akwa Ibom State,Transition Chairman, Ikono Local Government Area, Hon. Kingsley Akpan on Monday July 8th, flagged off the distribution of 5000 hybrid oil palm seedlings to 149 farmers across the Local Government for planting.
Distributing the seedlings in Ibiaku Ntok Okpo, Hon Akpan said the initiative is aimed to boost the rate of revenue accrued from oil palm in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large to help resurrect the GDP and alleviate homes from poverty in line with Pastor Umo Eno’s arise agenda in agriculture as well as create generational wealth for Akwa Ibom people.

The Ikono helmsman, thanked Governor Umo Eno for demostrating high level of responsibility in changing the narrative of development in the rural communities, said it has really inspired and motivated him to key into the vision hunk, line and sinker.
“As our own way of demosticating the agricultural revolution component of Governor Umo Eno’s Arise Agenda, today under first phase of the IKOPP initiative, we will be giving out not less than 5000 stands of Hybrid palm fruit seedlings (the general specie), to 149 gazetted villages in Ikono to launch community owned palm plantation project “.
In order to ensure that resources committed to the project is not in vain, Hon. Akpan promised to send a team of professionals to guild the villages on how to plant and care for the seedlings as well as monitoring the growth of the palm to stage of maturity and fruiting.

He informed that Ikono have comparative advantage in the oil palm sector, assured that his administration will do his best into building a standard Oil Palm Processing Mills in all political zones in Ikono to off-take, processed and add value to the palm fruit chain, while urging people to key into the vision for a prosperous future.
The well attended event, was graced by the Paramount Ruler of Ikono, HRM Edidem Etim Nnana Itang and other political class, women and youth groups who all described the initiative as a win-win project for Ikono.
The event climax with the distribution of hybrid palm seedlings to farmers and plating of the seedlings in the Council headquarters Ibiaku Ntok Okpo.
