… as Boniface Edem languishes for help
By Emmanuel Sampson
In total contempt, and disregard for the rule of law and orders of the Federal High Court, Uyo, a judge of the National Industrial Court, Hon. Justice Isaac Essien has persistently refused to act in line with the directive of the High Court which instructed that all parties involved in a case between Directors of Jopen Nig. Ltd and Keystone Bank, as well as all activities within the premises of the fuel station, be put on hold pending the determination by the court.
Justice Essien, we learnt, has also flagrantly refused to adhere to the order of the High Court, as he has mobilised some locals to station in Jopen filling station located at no. 93 Aka Etinan Road in Uyo, thereby leading to vandalisation of Mr. Boniface Edem’s property, who is the lessee. These are the latest revelations unearthed by our reporter.
The case with suit number FHC/UY/CS/45/2023, began when the lessee, Mr. Boniface Edem rented Jopen filling station for business between 2021-2026 from its Directors but was denied access to his business premises on August 1, 2023, on the ground that the station has been sold to Justice Jeremiah Essien by Keystone Bank who custody the property on a loan condition with the Directors of Jopen with all his personal properties; 3 nozzles digital pumps, 2 big generators, 74 thousand litter’s of premium motor spirit (PMS), 8 thousand litter’s of diesel and other properties worth millions of naira.
Speaking with one of the Directors of Jopen station, Mrs. Eno Ekong, she said since the matter was in Court she can only wait for the final verdict from the Court, as she cannot release detailed information since six other Directors are involved.
In a chat with the Lead Counsel to Mr. Boniface Edem, Barr. Chris Ezeibe described the action of Justice Essien as unfortunate saying “he has no respect nor regard for the rule of law thereby aggravating the issue and has not carried himself as a judiciary officer of that rank”.
Ezeibe informed that Justice Essien has compromised orders of both the Federal High Court and that of the Nigeria police, saying he is acting funny because of superior backing but expressed confidence that the Court will determine the case in due course, hence, had no reason to embark on a futile belligerent endeavor, as justice Essien had done over time.
The Lead Counsel, who lamented that the activities of Justice Essien were a total breach of agreement and infringement of human rights on the part of his client, equally condemned in its entirety the scandalous suppression of Mr. Boniface and prayed the Court to give judgment in time in order to serve Mr. Boniface from further embarrassment from justice Essien.
In the face of all these abysmal offences committed by Justice Essien, when this reporter contacted him for clarification, he arrogantly replied and I quote “Get away and go and write anything you want to write, I don’t have time for any nonsense” and dropped the call.
However, the case has been adjourned for further hearing.
